Halloween is less than a week away, and if there’s one thing we all know, visiting the Halloween store days before Halloween can be one of the worst ideas ever. Picture this: The parking lot is a nightmare, the lines are long, the stores are extremely crowded, all good manners seem to somehow go out the window, all the “good” costumes have already been picked over and, basically, it can all-in-all be a daunting errand. Cut to scouring the internet for a good DIY Halloween Costume that you can make in the sanctity of your house.

There’s no shame in waiting until the last minute for finding your little one a Halloween costume. It can take a while to come up with a good idea, not to mention our lives are busy these days. Halloween is always a sneaky holiday – next thing we know, it will be Christmas. But first things first, we need to find you a last-minute DIY Halloween costume! Not only will it give your little one a costume and you a sense of accomplishment, but it’s also a great bonding activity you can do year after year. Luckily for you, we rounded up some of our favorite DIY Halloween Costumes that you can work on this weekend just in time for Halloween!

Our DIY Halloween Costume Best-Of Roundup

We’re always making DIY’s over here, so we figured: Why not pick the best ones that could be repurposed into Halloween costumes? The best part is that they are all pretty easy to make, and you’ve still got plenty of time to grab the supplies and any of the extra accoutrement this weekend!

DIY Butterfly Costume

This DIY is super easy to make, and easy to take to the next level! Grab a tutu dress, some stockings and some face paint to complete the look. If you’ve got more than one child to dress, keep reading: there’s some more insect wing DIY’s so that everyone can have a unique DIY Halloween costume!

DIY Animal Costume

We have two separate DIY how-to’s here: the animal masks themselves, and the matching ear headbands to go along with it. You can do them each alone, or can put them together for when they might want to take the mask off. To take it up a notch, just grab some matching clothes and some extra fabric to hang from the back of their pants for a tail, and viola! You’re the King of the Jungle!

DIY Pumpkin Costume

This DIY is especially perfect for the very little ones, since they will need to fit inside a paper bag. This DIY is great for trick-or-treating, since it doesn’t matter how dirty and messed up it gets! The best part is there’s no need for storing clumpy Halloween costumes – just toss in the recycling at the end of the night and you’re done.

DIY Fairy and Gnome Costumes

Fairies are the most magical in the forest, so make sure you grab tons of glitter and makeup to complete the look! Although this DIY has a crown to go along with it, we’re going to give you options here. Click here for a second wildflower crown option!

Fairies are never far from their gnome friends, so if you’re looking for a really cute theme, then this is a great option. Bonus points for funny sitting photos in the garden! This DIY can work for the whole family, so adorable family photos will have to be a must.

DIY Ladybug Costume

The friendliest of all the insects, any little kid would love to be a ladybug for the night. Just grab some black pants or a black skirt and stockings, a red top and you’re ready to go! Bonus points if you wrap two black pipe cleaners around a headband for the antenna!

DIY Astronaut and Alien Costumes

This DIY Astronaut costume is not only fun to make, but even more fun to wear. Grab a puffy white or silver outfit to really take it up a notch. When we made these, our little models loved them, and your little one is sure to love it as well!

Our Alien DIY will pair perfectly with the astronaut costume. All you need is tons of green clothing, facepaint and you’re EXTRA terrestrial! This astronaut and alien theme can also be great for the whole family, especially if the parents are the big, green funny aliens.

DIY Jet Packs

Speaking of astronauts above, what better way to complete the costume than to add on some homemade jetpacks? This DIY pairs perfectly with the astronaut and alien them, but also stands alone great on its own!

DIY Dragonfly Costume

Dragonflies are one of the most interesting insects, so why not be one for Halloween? This DIY is easy to make and even more fun to wear. If you have multiple children, give each one a different insect “wing” DIY for an adorable photo! All you’ll need is a deep purple, green or blue outfit to pair with it, and while you’re at it, why not add some glitter?
