Daylight Savings is officially upon us but instead of lamenting the loss of the extra sunlight, we’re celebrating the addition of cozy nights spent inside! There are plenty of indoor activities that will keep little ones occupied until bedtime including DIY campfire lanterns to use while “camping” with our Ultimate Camping Kit!

The Ultimate Camping Kit contains everything your little one needs to enjoy imaginative play in the great indoors. For nearly the same price as one of our single house tents, this kit comes with THREE camping essentials, including a colorful tent, a child-size chair, and a cozy sleeping bag that will (hopefully!) inspire zzzz’s.

This kit is ideal for all kinds of adventures including sleepovers, holidays, or simply a late afternoon activity. The entire set is scaled down for children so it won’t take up too much precious real estate in your living room during the long winter months when the kids spend most of their time indoors. Best of all, once the cold season is over and the sun stays out longer, the kit can be used outdoors as well!

Each component in the kit is the perfect size for children to build their camping confidence. Your child will be ready to brave the elements (or the play room) in style!

Creating these kid-friendly lanterns to pair with the Ultimate Camping Kit could not be easier! Here’s what you’ll need:

SUPPLIES

  • Plastic jar with lid (we used these ones)
  • Tissue paper in various colors
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors
  • Mini Light Strands (we used these ones)
  • Burlap string
  • Drill (to make the holes in the lid, this part is done by an adult)

Using yellow tissue paper, cut out “flame” edges using scissors and then adhere all the way around the plastic jar using a light coat of Mod Podge glue.

Next, cut out another layer of the flame and adhere over the first layer.

From there, add the third layer of tissue paper and let dry.

After the flames have been created, drill out two small holes in the lid of the jar and thread a small string of burlap into the holes to act as the handle. From there, place a strand of battery-powered mini lights into the jar and your kid-friendly lantern is ready!

Not only do these lanterns act as the perfect accessory to our Ultimate Camping Kit but they can also be used as a soft nightlight for little ones who may be afraid of the dark. What’s even more, when the camping adventure has concluded, you can simply turn off the battery-powered light and pack away until the next indoor expedition begins.

May these lanterns light the way to fun!
