Whether you dream of a moon landing or encountering life on Mars, outer space holds endless appeal to both children and adults alike. Today we are exploring the reaches beyond by creating DIY paper towel roll rocket ships that were inspired by our Glow-In-The-Dark Galaxy Combo Junction!
With our Glow-In-The-Dark Galaxy Combo Junction, your child will enjoy outer space in style and comfort. In fact, this combo tent features four tunnel junctions extending off of the center hub, thus making it big enough to accommodate several mini space explorers at one time.
The long tunnels are easy to set up and feature real-life graphics that encourage play and imagination. Plus, tunnels are an excellent tool for building gross motor skills while exploring far away galaxies!
Best of all, this indoor / outdoor combo tent glows in the dark!
To enhance the outer space playtime experience, we created DIY rocket ships made from a paper towel roll and a handful of craft supplies. Here’s what you’ll need:
SUPPLIES:
- Cardstock paper
- Empty paper towel roll
- Scissors
- Mini party hats
- Glue stick (or hot glue with parental supervision)
- Double sided tape
- Pencil
Begin by wrapping a sheet of blue cardstock around the paper towel roll until it is completely covered and secured with adhesive. Tuck the ends of the paper that hang over the edge into the inner part of the paper towel roll (both ends will eventually be covered up).
Cut a few strips of lighter blue cardstock to act as embellishments for the rocket ship body.
Use the base of the paper towel roll to trace out a small circle and then cut the circle out to be used as a window.
Adhere the various shapes onto the rocket ship body using a glue stick.
Cut out several squiggly strips of yellow and orange cardstock paper to act as flames.
Place the fire strips in the bottom opening of the rocket and adhere in place with double sided tape.
Cut one of the party hats in half to use for the wings.
Cut out four small tabs from the dark blue cardstock and secure in place with double sided tape.
Place the wings onto both sides of the rocket.
Finally, adhere a mini party hat to the top of the rocket ship to act as the nose.
You are cleared for takeoff!
3, 2, 1…blast off!
Your DIY rocket ship is sure to be “out of this world!”
