DIY Coconut Water Popsicles
The best part about making popsicles is that they are 1) super duper easy and 2) completely customizable! There are seemingly endless possibilities when it comes to making popsicles, however, they can easily turn from a healthy treat to a complete sugar binge. That’s why we’ve kept it simple and are using only a few fruits and topping it off with coconut water instead of juice.
What You Need
- Silicone Popsicle Mold – We ordered this one from Amazon
- Popsicle Sticks – Tip: the mold we ordered (above) came with some
- Peaches
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Coconut water
How You Make Them
As mentioned, the great part about this DIY is that you can use whatever fruits or liquids you want. If you didn’t want to use coconut water, you could puree some of the fruit ahead of time, use regular water or use some orange juice!
- First, fill the mold with fruit
- Fill with whatever liquid you are using, in our case, we used the coconut water
- Put the silicone mold lid on top and insert the popsicle sticks
- Freeze overnight
- Once solid, pop the popsicle molds out and serve!
- TIP: If you’re bringing them somewhere, we would suggest adding a plastic bag or wrap and tie to keep from sticking from each other.

Why Coconut Water?
In our DIY Coconut Water Popsicles recipe, we called out coconut water instead of regular water or other juice. Why? Medical News Today says it is a natural sports drink. Start swapping Gatorade for coconut water because the natural electrolytes make it a solid match for traditional sports drinks without the added sugar, food coloring, or artificial sweeteners. It’s also low in calories, high in potassium, antioxidants and are almost 8 times as hydrating as water.
Cold Hard Facts About Freezing
Once your kids see how easy it is to make popsicles, it is a skill they will never forget. Throwing a bunch of fruit and liquid together can make a healthy and delicious snack? Done!
According to KidzSearch, freezing is the process when a liquid turns into a solid. Freezing occurs when the heat is lost from an object, which causes the molecules to slow down and form tighter bonds. One example of freezing is when water turns into ice. Freezing is the opposite of melting, and two steps away from evaporation. Freezing occurs at below 0 degrees Celsius with water, while some other liquids become solid at higher or lower temperatures.
Different liquids freeze at different times, due to their density or how much heat they may have had when going into the freezer. With colder weather coming up, teach your kids all about freezing and melting!
