If your little ones have been cooped up indoors for the last few months, it’s time to break free from from the bonds of winter weather and get some fresh air! A little sunshine paired with a little exercise can go a long way in improving the whole family’s mood.

One of our favorite ways to let kids burn up all that pent-up energy is with a childhood classic: jumping sacks!

In case you’re unfamiliar with them, jumping sacks are simply cotton canvas sacks with handles that kids step into and then jump to their heart’s content. Our favorite way to use them is by lining children up in a row and having them jump, jump, jump their way towards a designated finish line.

Jumping sacks are a fantastic activity for children of all ages, beginning as young as preschoolers. Not only do they provide a great cardiovascular workout but they also foster play and cooperation with others. These particular sacks even include colored pockets with small plastic sleeves so you can add their name to the front!

For the younger kiddos, we suggest a short and simple sack race with a clear starting line and finish line. We created a simple banner made of colorful construction paper to add an extra layer of fun to the game.

As kids get a little older and more adept with the jumping sacks, you could create an obstacle course for them to maneuver around or even have them swap jumpers mid-race. No matter how you set-up the course, it’s a guarantee that giggles will be abound!

Ready…set…JUMP!
